A World Class Signature Festival blending your favorite artists in the world through multiple genres of Music - Art & Live Performances

We have entered into a new decade. A decade where technology has closed the gap between countries, cultures, thoughts, ideas and discovery of music. In these times there needs to be a positive celebration that unites all different genres of music under one banner.

This is UR1. This new festival is designed with a purpose to unite people as one through Art & Sound - the world as 1.

  • Kanye West at UR1

Kanye West is a cultural phenomenon; he is a name on everyone’s radar. Since entering into the music game in the mid-90s as Roc-A-Fella Record’s head producer, West has been on a mission to be “the Greatest ______ of all-time!”

From rapper to record label owner to fashion designer and filmmaker, he has defied every boundary and reached new heights. Don’t just let us convince you, check out this great article on Mr. West via COMPLEX and see for yourself. Oh and of course, the much anticipated GOOD Music compilation, “Cruel Summer” is in stores now! Check out the video here and support good music.

  • Lou Reed at UR1

Lou Reed is a living legend who continues to push the envelope of music. From his days as the lead frontman of the inimitable Velvet Underground to his most recent collaborative project, Lulu, with Metallica, Reed is as relevant as any hot young turk out there. To exactly prove this point, just yesterday, Lou joined one of today’s buzzworthy bands, Metric, at their sold-out show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

Lou joined Metric’s lead singer, Emily Haines, for a remixed-duet of their hit single, “The Wunderlust” as well as a classic rendition of Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes”. Check out the video here. Needless to say, Lou Reed is the ultimate guru of rock’n’roll so kids, pay your respects and watch and learn.

  • UR1 Behind the Scenes

Many of you have been in awe of the past two epic video trailers for UR1, along with the stellar design and branding of the festival … all this magic didn’t come from no where. Meet Deep Sleep Studio, a Miami-based creative agency led by head magician, Alex Martinez, who has been the brainchild behind such beauties.

Deep Sleep took the helm for the next video installment for UR1, creating a visual journey of emotions and expression. With the help of photographer, Michael Raveney, both Martinez and his team were able to create this artistic vision, telling the story of two bodies (drenched in paint), resisting each other then slowly joining together as one … UR1. ”We were critical to detail,” states Martinez. ”And to achieve the result we wanted we use a paint that would break apart and flake as the bodies moved. It was really important to capture that detail on film and see the strength behind the movement.”

Shot at Studio 1415 in Miami, Martinez and Raveney created the concept from vision to inception in only 48 hours!

We can’t wait to see the final product but for now, check out the photos above and visit www.deepsleepstudio.com for more Deep Sleep magic.

  • UR1 spotted at Lollapalooza

Music Festivals are a dime and dozen these days yet one can’t deny the impact of Lollapalooza! Created in 1991 by Jane’s Addiction frontman, Perry Farrell, as a farewell tour of the band, Lollapalooza soon became the premier festival to highlight the best of the best in the current music scene.

This past week, some members from our UR1 team headed out to Lolla in Chicago to check out the sights and sounds … not to mention fly an awesome UR1 banner above the air (see above pic) and get some inspiration for the upcoming fest! Highlights included an epic set by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Justice, Bloc Party, and so much more.

  • UR1 confirmed location: Bayfront Park

UR1 Festival has confirmed its location for their 2-day festival. Bayfront Park, the 32-acre public park situated in Downtown Miami right on Biscayne Bay, will serve as an urban visual and musical theme park come December.

Having been the playground for some of today’s biggest music and cultural fest, UR1 will transform the park like never before.

“Bayfront Park has always held a special place in my heart,” says Alex Omes, founder of UR1 and partner in Go Big Productions. “I have been producing events there for years. It is a ‘blank canvas’ and our team cannot wait to create on it.”

  • The Warhol Museum Art Lovers 2-Day Pass: Before 2pm

UR1 Festival is pleased to announce The Andy Warhol Museum as our official cultural partner. This special priced entry ticket, dedicated to the culture shifters and the international art community in Miami during Art Basel Week, is now available.

The “Warhol Museum Art Lovers 2-Day Pass” released at $99 will grant entry before 2pm, allowing art fans a chance to check out over 40 local and international art installations and exhibits before the music kicks into high gear. Once inside, guests can enjoy the music and positive vibes until festival closing.

  • Miami's Primary Projects

If you’re from Miami or just stopping by, one thing is for certain, the art scene in this city is hotter than the August heat! One collective that has been fueling the fire is Primary Projects, an offshoot of Primary Flight, the world’s largest outdoor mural installation in the Wynwood and Design District area here in Miami.

Headed by three homegrown artists, BooksIIII Bischof, Typoe and Chris Oh, Primary Projects is its own entity. Half exhibiting gallery space, half on-going project room, Primary Projects curates on-going installations and exhibitions, featuring some of today’s best working visual artists.

Check out a nice intro to the Primary Flight initiative above and visit www.primaryprojectspace.com for more info.

  • Olympics closing ceremony

Our team has been busy prepping for UR1 so we can easily say that we missed the majority of the 2012 Olympics - yet, the closing ceremony is another story! If you guys haven’t noticed, our UR1ArtSenors perked up when we found out that mega-superstar visual artists, Damien Hirst, and overall London hometown hero, did a remarkable version of the Old Union Jack (a.k.a. UK’s flag) in his signature spin art. Nice work, ole’ chap!

  • Dev Harlan's Astral Flight Hangar

We here at UR1 are a bit obsessed with innovation and technology in contemporary art. Anything that stretches the boundaries of imagination through the usage of modern-day electronics alway gets us in a bright mood. With that being said, meet Dev Harlan. This multimedia light artist has created the Astral Flight Hangar, which uses light and projection mapping on unique geometric sculptures.

If you’re in New York City, check out Dev’s first solo exhibition at the Christopher Henry Gallery, which runs from now til October 9, 2012.

  • Art | Basel – Miami Beach returns

Art Basel Miami Beach is an annual contemporary art fair held in Miami, Florida each December, which is a sister event to Art Basel in Switzerland. The Miami fair has been held annually since 2001, as a city-wide event.

Along with promoting adjoining fairs and associated events, organizers of Art Basel Miami Beach boast that it has eclipsed the original Art Basel in size and popularity, if not importance, making it the most prominent contemporary art fair in the world.

Over 60,000 artists, dealers, collectors, museum professionals as well as art patrons and enthusiasts come from all over the world to attend Art Basel Miami Beach as well as its many satellite fringe art fairs throughout the city.

Art Basel Miami Beach can be considered one of the top attended week-long events for influencers in all genres that go well beyond visual arts - including music, fashion, film, literature, performance art, etc. Art Basel Miami Beach also brings in top brands and companies that gain maximum exposure to this targeted demographic.

In 2012, Art Basel Miami Beach takes place starting on Dec. 6th through the 9th.

  • Here comes the neighborhood …

We, here at UR1, have been avid fans of the Wynwood Arts District. Every 2nd Saturdays, Wynwood’s streets transform into an art and music circus, with multiple gallery openings, live street art and even an old-school hip-hop block party. Yet with all these activities, there’s an epicenter, the ground-zero of what embodies the heart of soul of the area. That’s Wynwood Walls.

“Here Comes the Neighborhood” is an on-going online series that explores the various areas of the burgeoning Miami arts community. Check out its first webisode where we delve deep into how the Wynwood Walls came to be and the masterminds behind this neighborhood resurgence.
